While you’re out clearing your driveways and sidewalks, please take an extra few minutes to clear the fire hydrant nearest your home or business

It’s especially important because single-digit temperatures are expected for at least a few days, which will cause the snow to freeze hard.

If there is a fire, precious minutes will be lost if firefighters first have to find the hydrant and then chip away the frozen snow to hook up their hoses. Please clear snow three feet in all directions around the hydrant. That will give the hose lines room to expand without kinking when they are charged with water.
